What is CTET

CTET stands for central teacher’s eligibility test. This test was introduced in 2011. NCTE governs this test. This test is conducted by CBSE. As per the regulations laid by governing body, it is mandatory to clear eligibility test to become a teacher. As of now it is required only in government jobs. In the long run even private schools are also supposed to implement this requirement. Anybody who has completed teachers education course like D.Ed. or B.Ed. has to clear CTET in order to be eligible to become a Teacher.

This test is conducted twice every year. once in the month of January then in the month of July. It is an objective type test. The syllabus covers portions from pedagogy and the course content of class 1st to 8th.

The test has been segregated on the basis of classes. D.Ed. students are eligible for primary level, which is also called paper I. whereas, B.Ed. students are eligible for lower secondary ie class 6th to 8th, which is called paper II.

For paper I, the syllabus cover topics from Hindi, English and environmental studies upto class V.

In paper II other than languages, science/maths and social studies are there

The candidate has a choice to decide her stream. It has 2 streams Arts and science. Arts stream has questions from SST ie social studies for science stream the candidate should have knowledge of science and Mathematics.
